Eirian began her career in her local area as the Head of Additional Learning Needs Department in Ysgol Uwchradd Tregaron. After thirteen years she moved to south Wales and worked with Gwent Education Department and later Torfaen following the reorganization of local authorities. Her main role was as a Welsh first language peripatetic consultant but she also contributed to many committees and focus groups and worked as a trainer nationally with the WJEC and created materials for many institutions such as the BBC Education Department.
It was during this period that she had the opportunity to attend many courses and conferences particularly in the filed of teaching reading techniques and adapted many of these schemes into Welsh. After partially retiring, she drew on these experiences to create the Tric a Chlic scheme. Publishing the scheme became a realization of an ambition, as she believes that the most effective way of teaching early reading is through the synthetic phonic system.
There is an increased call for her expertise these days from Local Education Authorities and individual schools to train teachers and assistants in the strategies of the scheme.
